Er gebeurt iets heel interessants bij London Distillery Company. Met New Forms brengt LDC niet zomaar drie nieuwe whisky\u2019s uit. Ze laten zien wat hun eigen spirit kan doen wanneer dezelfde basis wordt gevormd door verschillende vatstijlen. E\u00e9n distilleerderij-karakter. Drie verschillende reizen. Wat ik vooral sterk vind aan deze release, is het idee erachter. Dezelfde DNA. Maar drie totaal andere vatverhalen. De ex-bourbon lijkt meer op rijk, zoet en krachtig fruit met vanille en kruiden. De Fino gaat frisser, droger en zilter. En de Moscatel klinkt juist donkerder, voller en meer richting gekarameliseerd fruit en warme specerijen. Voor mij voelt New Forms als een moderne Engelse whiskyserie die niet probeert om Schotland na te doen, maar juist laat zien dat Engelse single malt zijn eigen donkere, creatieve en zelfverzekerde richting op kan gaan. En dat vind ik precies het mooie aan deze serie. De basis begint met LDC single malt die eerst rijpt in refill hogsheads, waarna iedere whisky een eigen tweede rijping krijgt. Daardoor voelen de drie bottelingen duidelijk met elkaar verbonden, maar spreekt elke fles toch een eigen taal.

Honing, beboterde toast, rijpe banaan, citroenschil, vanille, karamel, kaneel en licht geblakerd eikenhout.
Fino Sherry Cask
8 maanden in first-fill Fino sherry hogshead
61.4% ABV

Gekonfijte citroenschil, gele pruim, nectarine, citrus, witte peper, geroosterd eikenhout en een klein zilt randje.
Moscatel Sherry Cask
8 maanden in first-fill Moscatel sherry hogshead
61.6% ABV
345 flessen
Gekarameliseerde sinaasappelschil, gepocheerde perzik, gestoofde appel, bruine boter, donkere toffee, gember en verwarmende kruiden.
