“Wanneer sherry in een houten vat rijpt, trekt de vloeistof, in tegenstelling tot bij bourbon, niet in de houtnerf. In plaats daarvan worden de smaken geactiveerd door de oxidatie van de vloeistof, waardoor de kenmerkende diepfruitige tonen van sherry achterblijven, die aan de whisky worden doorgegeven.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n
De meeste sherry wordt gemaakt van\u00a0palomino\u00a0druiven, in grote eikenhouten vaten. Sherry wordt versterkt met een druiven\u00a0distillaat\u00a0om de kracht ervan te vergroten. Er zijn een aantal verschillende soorten sherry, waarvan er vele door verschillende whiskydistilleerderijen worden gebruikt voor hun unieke vaten.
